Celebrating a Milestone

Honored as 2024's GUAA Outstanding Young Alumnus, celebrating our DeafPlus community's achievements.

Celebrating a Milestone

In a letter that filled my heart with both pride and humility, I was recently informed of a recognition that goes beyond personal achievement—it's a testament to the incredible journey we've embarked on together as a community. The Gallaudet University Alumni Association has graciously named me the 2024 honoree of the GUAA Outstanding Young Alumnus Award, a distinction given to young alumni who, within 15 years of their graduation, have brought favorable recognition to our alma mater through notable achievements.

This honor is not just about my individual efforts but reflects the collective spirit and resilience of the DeafPlus community. As an advocate and social media influencer, my aim has always been to shine a light on our stories, challenges, and triumphs. This recognition from Gallaudet University, an institution that has played a pivotal role in my own personal and professional growth, is incredibly meaningful. It underscores the importance of advocacy and the impact of our voices at the local, state, and national levels.

The invitation to the Charter Day Awards Reception, to be held on April 6, 2024, at the Peikoff Alumni House at Gallaudet University, is an opportunity to celebrate not just an individual achievement but the progress we've made as a community. It's a moment to reflect on the journey so far and envision the path ahead, filled with opportunities for further advocacy, education, and empowerment.

I am deeply honored by this award and excited to accept it in person. It's a chance to express my gratitude to the Gallaudet University Alumni Association, my family, friends, and every member of the DeafPlus community who has supported and inspired me along the way. This recognition is a shared victory, a symbol of what we can achieve together with determination, passion, and a relentless pursuit of our goals.

As I prepare to speak at the awards reception, my message will be one of unity, resilience, and hope. It's a reflection on our shared experiences, the obstacles we've overcome, and the limitless potential that lies within our community. This award is a reminder that every step we take towards inclusivity, every story we share, and every barrier we break makes a difference.

To the Gallaudet University Alumni Association and everyone who has been a part of this journey: thank you. This honor is a milestone not just for me, but for all of us. Together, we'll continue to advocate, inspire, and live our best DeafPlus lives, making our mark on the world and paving the way for future generations.

Let's celebrate this moment, not as the pinnacle of our journey, but as a stepping stone to greater achievements and a more inclusive world. Here's to the power of our community and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
